Lets talk about matcha!
Matcha is a fine powder that is made from high quality green tea leaves. It’s made into a tea that has a higher concentration of the nutrients that are found in regular green tea.
So, what makes this so much better than your regular green tea you ask? Well typically when you make green tea you would steep the leaves in hot water but with matcha, you are mixing the fine powder into your water or milk. As a result, you consume the whole leaf and receive even more benefits like more antioxidants and more caffeine. ( AKA more Bang for your Buck) With matcha, you will receive three times more caffeine than regular green tea. Hold on, Dont panic, I know you may be thinking you don’t want that much caffeine… The fabulous thing about Matcha is that it contains a calming substance called I-theanine. This is good caffeine that helps you feel energized and focused without that jittery feeling. So why drink the potent green powder? Below I have listen just a FEW of the many benefits:
- High in antioxidants- matcha is loaded with catechins which act as natural antioxidants and help stabilize free radicals that cause chronic disease.
- Boosting brain function- matcha has been proven to help improve your memory and attention. (this is why i drink it, AKA helps with mom brain)
- May help prevent skin cancer- matcha contains EGCG which helps reduce DNA damage caused by UV rays and has restoring properties.
- Weight loss- studies have shown that matcha can help boost your metabolism and fat burning which aid in losing weight. (I mean who doesn’t want that)
- Reduce acne- it has been shown that using matcha topically on your skin can remove dead skin cells and contains chlorophyll which eliminates acne-causing bacteria. (so cool right?)
Who knew that some ground up green tea could have so many benefits? It has actually become one of the favorite parts of my day. Personally, I like to drink it over ice with a splash of oat milk, and a dash of vanilla extract. If you decide to give Matcha a try, I highly recomend “ceremonial matcha” Not a fan of the taste? I totally get it. Try putting it in a smoothie, you wont even know its there and you’ll be getting the same health benefits!
