There are so many different opinions on this topic, but here’s what I know: Our bodies are roughly 60% water.
The human body is constantly losing water throughout the day. (thru breathing, sweat, and urine) Therefore it is our job to replenish water through food and drink. Most health experts recommend “8 glasses of 8 ounces ” of water per day, also known as the 8×8 rule. But to really determine an exact amount, there are many factors that go into play. How active are you? How much do you weigh? What type of environment are you in everyday? Are you pregnant or nursing?
Personally I recommend the 1/2 your body weight rule. Drink 1/2 your body weight in ounces of water per day. For example a 200 pound man would drink 100 ounces of water per day while a 100 lb woman would only need to consume 50 ounces. Make sense? More than anything, listen to your body. Feel thirsty after a workout? Notice your sweating more than normal that day. Don’t reach for a sugary sports drink or a diet soda. Go for a bottled water instead, your body and metabolism will thank you for it.
